The Alcover Town Council has announced a new step in improving its electrical network with a project by EDistribución. This initiative, responding to the council's identified needs, represents a significant advancement in the modernization of the municipality's power supply in the Alt Camp region.
The project includes the removal of 1,304 meters of 25 kV overhead medium-voltage lines and 29 existing poles (thirteen concrete, thirteen wooden, and three metal). Additionally, 177 meters of low-voltage overhead lines and five more poles (four concrete and one wooden) will be removed. In total, 1,481 meters of overhead cabling and 34 poles will be eliminated.
The project's main feature is the undergrounding of the network. EDistribución will lay over 3,300 meters of new 25 kV underground medium-voltage cable, connecting various transformation centers and key points in Alcover's grid. This will necessitate new ductwork, primarily under roadways, but also sidewalks and some land areas.
Beyond the strictly electrical improvements, the project will have a clear impact on Alcover's urban space, reducing the presence of overhead infrastructure and visually enhancing the streets, while contributing to a network more protected against adverse weather conditions.
The Alcover Town Council views the project positively, noting it aligns with long-standing demands due to the electrical supply issues the municipality has experienced over the years, including outages and micro-outages affecting homes, businesses, and essential services, particularly during adverse weather.
This new action is seen as another step towards mitigating the effects of the current network situation connecting Alcover to the substation in Selva del Camp. The council will continue to monitor progress and urge the electricity company to fulfill its commitments and expedite necessary interventions for a reliable power service in Alcover.
