The municipal plenary session of Alcover unanimously approved a motion presented by Alcoverencs pel Canvi (AcP), showing its explicit support for the recognition of labor rights and the dignification of the conditions of Volunteer Firefighters.
The municipal initiative stems from a base text drafted by the Volunteer Firefighters of Alcover themselves, which they submitted to the City Council during a prior meeting with the mayor's office. The motion emphasizes the essential work of this group for the safety of the municipality and the territory.
Among the approved agreements, a key point is the request to the Department of the Interior of the Generalitat de Catalunya to recognize labor rights, guarantee social security and health coverage, implement occupational risk prevention protocols, review the remuneration model, and open a negotiation table to establish a dignified and guaranteed labor framework.
Furthermore, the motion demands an end to the structural precariousness that the group suffers and calls for the municipality's institutional recognition to be publicly extended to the volunteer firefighters serving the region.
