The summer festival of El Pla de Santa Maria kicks off with a weekend full of activities for everyone. Following the Festa de les Neus and a paddle tennis tournament, the celebration enters its final stretch with a varied program.
The official events will begin on Friday, August 14th, at 1 PM with the traditional bell ringing. In the afternoon, at 5 PM, there will be a parade featuring the town's giants, musicians (grallers), and capgrossos, as well as the gegantons from Catesplai Planenc and the grallers from Unió d’Anelles de la Flama de Valls.
After the parade, the festival's opening speech (pregó) will take place in Plaça de la Vola, this year delivered by Isidre Coll Recasens, president of the IGP Calçot de Valls. Subsequently, there will be a human tower demonstration by the Escatllots del Pla.
The day will continue with the start of the 'correbars' (a pub crawl with music) from Plaça de la Vila, organized by the Associació de Joves del Pla with the Txaranga Guirigalls. Starting at 10 PM, in front of the Joves' venue, the popular 'Espardenyada' will take place, followed by performances by Jordi Suñé, Sardines, and DJ Turu.
The weekend promises to be intense with dances by the orchestra Nova Blanes, traditional events, recreational and sports activities, culminating in a fireworks display.
