The report from the Tarragona Provincial Court reveals that Valls courts received a total of 7,894 new cases during 2025, comprising 3,774 civil matters and 4,120 criminal ones. Of these, 6,544 were resolved, leaving a backlog of 7,581 pending cases by year-end.
The situation is particularly critical in civil law, where the influx of cases has nearly doubled since 2018. Court Number 2 in Valls is the most affected, recording 1,736 civil cases in 2025, a 75.5% increase from the previous year. In criminal matters, all three courts also show growing pressure, with a 31% rise in pending cases.
Despite increased activity, the courts' resolution capacity is being overwhelmed by the volume of incoming cases. Response times are significantly lengthening, averaging 11 months in criminal proceedings and exceeding a year's wait in some civil courts.
The final balance depicts active courts, yet insufficient to absorb a continuously growing workload.
This situation has led to demands for reinforcements and the creation of a new court to adequately manage the caseload.
