Over 1,600 Alt Camp residents live abroad, a 5.23% increase since 2025

France, Germany, and Argentina are the countries with the highest presence of citizens from the region, showing consistent growth since 2009.

More than 1,600 people from the Alt Camp region currently reside abroad, according to data from the Institut d'Estadística de Catalunya, marking a 5.23% increase compared to the previous year.

As of January 1, 2026, a total of 1,609 individuals registered in Alt Camp have their residence outside Spanish borders. This figure represents a significant increase of 5.23% compared to 2025, when the number was 1,529.
Since 2009, data indicates a continuous growth in the number of residents from the region living abroad. Over the past 18 years, the figure has tripled, rising from 536 to the current 1,609 people, which represents a 200.19% increase. These statistics are derived from the register of residents abroad and include all Spanish nationals who habitually reside outside the national territory and whose last registered municipality was one of the 23 in Alt Camp.
Regarding the distribution by gender and age, although the data is almost equitable, there is a slight majority of men, who account for nearly 52% of the total (835). By age groups, young people and children stand out, with 607 individuals concentrated between the ages of 5 and 29, almost 38% of the total.
Analyzing the countries of residence, Europe hosts more than half of the residents from Alt Camp, with 56.81% (914 people). Within Europe, France is the primary destination with 304 residents, followed by Germany (152) and Belgium (145). The United Kingdom ranks fourth with 84. The second continent with the largest presence is America, with 612 registered individuals, of whom over 60% are in South America (381), with Argentina (150), Brazil (87), and Chile (64) as prominent countries. The United States, with 79 residents, is the third American country with the most citizens from the region. Asia (73), Africa (23), and Oceania (17) account for 5.16% of the total.
As for the municipalities of origin, Valls and Alcover lead the list, accounting for almost 70% of the total residents abroad from Alt Camp. Valls, the capital of the region, registers 912 inhabitants (56.68%), while Alcover is in second place with 207. Vila-rodona is third with 84 residents. At the other end, Rourell has 4 residents abroad. In the case of Valls, the figure has increased by 56 people compared to 2025, with France being the main destination for its citizens (207), followed by Germany (97), Brazil (76), and Belgium (74).
In the rest of the Tarragona demarcation, registered residents in municipalities of Camp de Tarragona reach 22,785, a 5.42% increase from the previous year. Tarragona (7,863) and Reus (4,928) lead this list, followed by Cambrils (1,393) and Salou (1,283). Valls holds the fourth position in this general classification for Camp de Tarragona.
