The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food has allocated 5.5 million euros in aid to compensate for the economic losses and costs incurred by the bovine sector due to contagious nodular dermatosis in Catalonia.

The aid is aimed at holders of farms affected by mandatory sanitary culling, restrictions related to animals destined for slaughterhouses, or other official measures adopted to control the disease. The budget is distributed into three lines: 1 million euros to compensate for losses from the disposal of carcasses of animals, 3.5 million euros for income loss due to sanitary culling, and 1 million euros for other costs arising from control measures.
The three aid lines are now open, with application deadlines on November 6, 10, and 12, depending on the modality. Through these measures, the Department aims to minimize the economic impact of the health crisis and support affected farmers.
Contagious nodular dermatosis was first detected in Catalonia on October 3, 2025. The control strategy, which has led to the eradication of the disease, was based on epidemiological surveillance, movement restrictions, biosecurity measures, sanitary culling, and vaccination. On February 27, 2026, the last remaining restrictions were lifted, corresponding to the outbreak in Capmany, Alt Empordà, allowing normality to be restored in 165 municipalities and 1,124 farms.
In addition to these 5.5 million euros in new aid, the Government has allocated 6.5 million euros in compensation to farms that had to carry out mandatory sanitary culling following detected outbreaks.
