The Historical Heritage Department of the Castelló d'Empúries Town Hall has recently carried out the renovation and replacement of several damaged heritage signage panels in Empuriabrava. This signage, originally installed in 2017 and 2018, aims to showcase the most outstanding and unique elements of the residential marina and offer visitors an itinerary through Empuriabrava's historical, cultural, and natural heritage.
In recent days, a total of eight panels and plaques have been renewed. The damage was primarily due to wear from sunlight, but also from vandalism. The renewed elements include the old Cortals, the Muga River Mouth building, various sculptures such as "Rellotge de Sol" (Sundial), "A l’aguait" (On the Lookout), and "Cavalls de Mar" (Seahorses) by Josep Tapiola, "El Peix de l’Amistat" (The Fish of Friendship) by Lorenzo Quinn, the bust "Carles Fages de Climent" by Jordi Ametlla, and the information board at Empuriabrava beach.
The replaced panels vary in type, size, and format. For the sculptures "El Peix de l’Amistat" and "Rellotge de Sol" on the Maritime Promenade, the plaques at the base have been replaced with lectern-style panels placed on the sidewalk, making them more accessible. Last year, six other panels were also replaced due to chromatic wear, text damage, or vandalism.
Empuriabrava's heritage signage consists of 20 elements, complemented by three large general information boards located at the entrance to Empuriabrava, in the Alberes commercial sector, and on the beach. Each panel provides information in five languages (Catalan, Spanish, French, English, and German), in Braille, and includes a QR code linking to further details.
