The Defensem l'Empordanet association has expressed its opposition to the Generalitat's Sectoral Territorial Plan for Renewable Energies (PLATER), warning of the risk of installing 390 wind turbines in the Empordà region.

The Defensem l'Empordanet entity has voiced its concern regarding the deployment of the PLATER, which, according to its data, foresees the installation of approximately 390 wind turbines up to 200 meters high, in addition to the occupation of "thousands of hectares" for photovoltaic plants. This volume of infrastructure would entail a "profound and irreversible transformation of the landscape and territory" of Empordà.

We consider it unacceptable that this transition is carried out at the expense of the territory, the landscape, and compliance with current legislation.

The platform recently met with the Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, and representatives of the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN). According to the association, the territorial, environmental, and landscape impact of the PLATER in Empordà is unprecedented in the region, far exceeding isolated cases such as that of la Tallada d'Empordà, where residents rejected a similar project.
While supporting renewable energies, Defensem l'Empordanet demands that project implementation be prioritized in already transformed spaces, such as rooftops, industrial estates, and already anthropized areas, instead of agricultural or natural lands, which they define as part of the "landscape, cultural, and productive heritage of Empordà".
The association advocates for a model based on self-consumption and energy sovereignty, and warns that it will intensify its territorial defense actions. New mobilizations are not ruled out to "make the voice of Empordà heard" against the deployment of the PLATER.
