The executive established the amounts after negotiations with the sector and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, aiming to pay a fair price. These scales are valid for all animals culled since October 3rd, the date the first case was detected on a farm in Alt Empordà.
Compensation is determined using technical and productive criteria that accurately assess the damage suffered by the farms. The classification primarily considers the productive function of each animal (milk or meat), in addition to age, reproductive stage, breed, and farming system.
Categories differentiated include replacement livestock, fattening or grazing calves, cows based on the number of lactations, and breeding bulls, each assigned a specific economic value. This system ensures that the amounts paid reflect the real value of the animal and the future productive loss.
Besides mandatory culling compensation, the Government plans to soon issue a new aid order for the recovery of productive potential in affected farms. This aid will cover, among other actions, the payment for feed destruction and farm repopulation.
The Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, previously announced that restrictions related to DNC will be lifted in Cassà de la Selva on December 26th, and the outbreak in Castelló d'Empúries will be declared over on January 8th. This will allow the resumption of animal movements 45 days after the final disinfection.
