Civil Protection has activated the pre-alert of the Inuncat plan due to the possibility of intense storms in Catalonia over the next few days. This alert follows the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya's activation of a maximum danger warning for downpours that may be accompanied by hail larger than two centimeters, wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h, heavy rainfall, and even tornadoes.
Although yesterday's storms were rapid and affected a large part of the territory, incidents were minimal. Firefighters responded to about fifty calls in one hour, mainly in Vallès Occidental, for clean-up operations, removal of fallen trees, and minor flooding. Some areas reported hail stones smaller than two centimeters.
The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya predicts that storms will continue at least until tomorrow, with potentially torrential rainfall exceeding 20 liters per square meter in just 30 minutes.
Civil Protection reminds the public of the importance of staying away from flood-prone areas such as streams and ravines. The Confederació Hidrogràfica de l’Ebre has increased surveillance for potential sudden local floods in ravines and streams within its basin.
