The announcement of the initial approval of the agreement, published in the Official Provincial Gazette on September 25, marks a new direction for the emblematic building. The agreement stipulates that the City Council will archive the expropriation file, which represented a significant cost for municipal coffers, and that the owners will commit to rehabilitating the property while maintaining its current structure.
This decision definitively dismisses the owners' initial plans to demolish 'Can Pedru' to build new apartments. The City Council thus reaffirms its commitment to preserving the historical and heritage value of the building, promoting a modification of the urban planning to ensure its protection.
Additionally, the council has secured a pre-emptive right of acquisition for the property, through pre-emption and redemption rights, in any future transfer of ownership.
The agreement was approved during the Plenary session on September 4, with the favorable votes of the governing team (Junts pel Port de la Selva) and the opposing votes of the opposition (Som El Port-AM).
