Renovation works at the cultural space La Fraternal in Espolla commenced in early July. This project, budgeted at over 310,000 euros, aims to bring the building into compliance with current accessibility, fire safety, and energy efficiency standards. The Societat's bar is expected to resume operations by mid- September.
According to Mayor Carles Lagresa, «We are in the midst of construction this summer and, if all goes well, it will allow us to reopen the Societat's bar.» The work covers the ground floor, first floor, stage, and semi-basement. Improvements will also be made to the bar area, including a direct access to restrooms, enhanced stage accessibility, and a new storage space.
Concurrently, the Espolla Town Council has reconstructed a dry stone wall along the path connecting the town center to Coll de Banyuls. This intervention follows an objection filed during the public exhibition of the road improvement project. Although the original plan involved stabilizing the terrain with a slope, the council decided to restore the wall to preserve its landscape and historical value.
The fourth phase of renovations at the century-old municipal cemetery is also nearing completion. This stage focused on replacing the roof, costing 26,513 euros. «We have been replacing the roof at a cost of 26,513 euros, and the works are about to finish,» stated Lagresa.
Finally, rehabilitation and waterproofing work continues on the terrace and facade of the first floor of the Town Hall. These efforts aim to address water infiltration issues, improve the building's safety and functionality, and extend its lifespan.
