The Girona Police Region has incorporated 159 trainee officers from the 33rd promotion of the Mossos d'Esquadra, who will strengthen the police forces in Alt Empordà. The presentation event, held in Figueres, was attended by the Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, Mayor Jordi Masquef, and police commanders.
These new officers, who have completed their training at the Institute of Public Security of Catalonia (ISPC), are now in the practical training phase in various basic police areas within the demarcation. At the Catalan level, 1,281 applicants have passed the basic training course, forming part of a total of 1,746 eligible students from the 39th promotion, which also includes future local police officers.
Despite the presentation, the Ministry of the Interior has not detailed the exact number of officers assigned to each police station in Alt Empordà. Three officers have been incorporated in L'Escala, a figure that has drawn municipal complaints for being insufficient. The mayor of Figueres confirmed the arrival of twenty-four officers, although he advocates for more personnel for citizen security.
These reinforcements are in addition to the 82 officers already integrated into the force who have been redistributed to municipalities with a summer population increase, such as Roses. Furthermore, the Girona Region has incorporated 13 sergeants, 65 corporals, 66 Traffic officers, and 31 ARRO agents, movements that globally enhance the demarcation's police capacity.
The incorporation responds to repeated requests from municipalities like Figueres to increase police presence. The demand is based on Alt Empordà's characteristics as a border territory with high mobility and coastal municipalities experiencing a significant population surge during summer. The real impact of these new officers will be assessed once their distribution is specified.
