The storm has been gaining strength throughout Monday, leading Civil Protection to maintain the INUNCAT plan alert for intense rain and strong waves. The particularly intense sea storm affects a large part of the coastline, with special impact on Empordà, La Selva, Maresme, Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Montsià, and Baix Ebre.
Data from the Catalan Meteorological Service (SMC) indicates that over 70 liters per square meter have already been exceeded in Empordà, highlighting the 73.3 liters registered in Portbou, 61.3 liters in Cabanes, and 51.2 liters in Borrassà. The SMC warns that over 100 l/m² could accumulate in 24 hours, especially in Alt and Baix Empordà, Gironès, and Pla de l'Estany.
Civil Protection sent an Es-Alert message to mobile phones in up to 19 coastal municipalities in Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà to warn of the risks posed by the sea storm.
Regarding the sea, waves of more than four meters have been recorded on the Costa Brava, and the sea storm is expected to intensify starting tonight and throughout Tuesday. The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) is carrying out preventive reservoir draining maneuvers in the Muga, Llobregat, Foix, and Ter rivers. Citizens are asked to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from breakwaters and seafront promenades.
