Minister Òscar Ordeig met with farmer representatives in Bàscara (Alt Empordà) on Sunday to propose a unified strategy against the Mercosur agreement and secure the lifting of road blockades.

The Catalan Government has proposed to the farmers maintaining various road blockades across Catalonia the creation of a "common front" of demands to be presented to both the Spanish government and the European Commission regarding the Mercosur trade agreement. The announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, Òscar Ordeig, after meeting with representatives of the protesting farmers and ranchers.
The meeting, held in Bàscara, primarily aimed to convince farmers to lift the road blockades, which have lasted four days. Ordeig explained that a meeting will be called "this very week" with all agrarian organizations to define the specific demands to be taken to Madrid and Brussels.

"We will transfer the proposal to the various blockades still active in the country and will decide in assembly if it is sufficient reason to lift the protest."

Examples of demands cited by the Minister include the implementation of "mirror clauses, border control, safeguard clauses, and an economic fund." Jordi Ginebreda, spokesperson for Revolta Pagesa, confirmed that the proposal will be consulted with the protesters before making a final decision on lifting the blockades.
This marks the fourth day of blockades on Catalan roads. Although the A-2 was reopened in Fondarella (Pla d'Urgell), major routes remain closed, including the AP-7 motorway between Borrassà (Alt Empordà) and Vilademuls (Pla de l'Estany), the C-16 between Berga and Casserres (Berguedà), the N-II between Bàscara and Garrigàs (Alt Empordà), and access to the Port of Tarragona via the A-27.
