The Roses City Council has initiated naturalization works at Canyelles beach to combat slope erosion and improve the area's landscape quality.

Currently, the initial phases of the project are underway, aiming to minimize the erosion problems affecting various points of the existing slope. This erosion is primarily caused by surface runoff water, leading to soil wear, slope degradation, and a deterioration of the landscape.
The project's objective is to consolidate the affected areas, restore the original terrain profile, and control water flow to prevent further soil erosion.
The proposed solution combines landscape bioengineering techniques with nature-based solutions for durable slope stabilization and reduced maintenance. A stone structure is being built at the water outlet to reduce its force, and an artificial channel is created to manage runoff.
Furthermore, the terrain is being reinforced with wooden structures, coconut coir mats, water control elements, soil additions, and native or adapted local plantings. The project will conclude with further phases of dune naturalization and tamarisk planting.
