The Port of Roses has finalized the renovation of its mooring systems with the removal of old concrete blocks from L'Almadrava and Canyelles beaches, thus completing the installation of ecological moorings.

This action removes old mooring elements that could compromise the seabed's conservation, replacing them with new ecological anchors. Previously, the Consorci de Conservació del Medi Marí conducted a technical and environmental diagnosis of the old blocks in L'Almadrava, Bonifaci, and Canyelles Petites. The study identified 83 blocks, of which 35 were suitable for removal, while 46 were recommended for conservation due to their integration with posidonia meadows or ecological value.
For the remaining seven blocks, mitigation measures will be applied before considering a possible future removal. The concrete blocks are removed in a controlled, vertical manner, avoiding dragging them across the seabed, and include subsequent environmental monitoring to assess the evolution of affected habitats.
The installation of the new ecological mooring system, which uses spiral-shaped, drill-type anchors, was carried out this summer on the beaches of L'Almadrava, Canyelles, and Montjoi. In total, 56 ecological moorings have been installed in Canyelles, 38 in Almadrava, and 43 in Montjoi. This system allows buoys to be secured without the traditional concrete blocks, which could damage marine habitats and posidonia meadows.
