The Town Council of El Pla del Penedès has installed a new information panel in Plaça Catalunya to launch the 'House Nicknames of El Pla' route, an initiative encouraging the discovery of local history through popular names.

The initiative invites residents and visitors to stroll through the town's streets and uncover a piece of its history via the popular names traditionally given to certain houses and spaces. The route guides participants to eleven locations within the urban center, including spots like Cal Cargolí, Cal Miquel Patrots, Cal Peret Forner, Cal Ferrer, Ca l’Esquilador, Cal Manyà, la Lleteria, Cal Carreter, el Pis, Cal Pau Barber, and the former site for playing 'bitlles' (a type of bowling).
The map installed in Plaça Catalunya helps locate these points and encourages participants to look closely at walls and the ground for drawings that identify each nickname.
Beyond showcasing different corners of the municipality, the project aims to preserve the popular memory of El Pla del Penedès. House nicknames are part of how generations of residents have identified families, homes, and places in the town, forming a unique element of local identity.
This initiative is one of the five routes available to explore El Pla del Penedès and its surroundings. All proposals can be found on the municipality's new tourism website, which details various options for discovering its heritage, history, and landscape.
