The CE Xamba Sports Club in Vilafranca del Penedès denounced on Tuesday, January 20, the serious structural deficiencies of the La Gamba Municipal Pavilion, which forced the cancellation of weekend matches due to flooding and injury risks.

The Club Esportiu Xamba has made public its outrage over the condition of the La Gamba Municipal Sports Pavilion, located in Vilafranca del Penedès, especially following the heavy rainfall recorded last weekend. The downpour caused leaks, lifted the floor and walls, and completely flooded the changing rooms.

"As a result of the poor conditions of the pavilion, we had to cancel matches at the last minute, with families waiting and arriving from all over Catalonia, teams ready to compete, and excited players. Not only is it frustrating, but it also generates chaos at a sporting and organizational level."

This situation forced the club to postpone all scheduled matches at the municipal facility, causing inconvenience to visiting teams and families. The board emphasizes that the problem goes beyond mere logistical annoyance.

"But the most important thing is that these conditions put the health of the players at risk, who can be injured simply by a movement or a stop on the court. We are not talking about an isolated incident or a minor inconvenience: it is unsafe and undignified."

The statement issued on Tuesday by the club concludes with an urgent request to the competent authorities to act with the utmost speed. They demand immediate measures be taken to guarantee an adequate and safe space for training and competition, stating that “This is not a whim; it is a necessity.”
