A project by the Consorci Sanitari Alt Penedès-Garraf (CSAPG) has been recognized with the Dr. Josep Antoni Grífols i Roig Award for its research on adherence to physical activity and nutrition recommendations in older adults.

The Consorci Sanitari Alt Penedès-Garraf (CSAPG) has received the Dr. Josep Antoni Grífols i Roig Award in the sociosanitary care category. This award, presented by the Garraf Regional Board of the Col·legi de Metges de Barcelona (CoMB), honors a study focused on adherence to non-pharmacological recommendations in geriatric patients.
The research, titled "Grado de cumplimiento terapéutico no farmacológico en un hospital de día (FUNCO)", was conducted at the Day Hospital for Geriatrics at the Hospital Sant Antoni Abat. The aim was to assess the extent to which users followed recommended physical activity and nutrition guidelines.
The study was led by Dr. Oscar Macho, a Geriatrics specialist at CSAPG; Javier Cuerda, a nurse and nutritionist; and Dr. Pablo E. García, a Geriatrics resident doctor, with support from nursing professionals.
Preliminary results indicate that 48% of participants adhered to physical activity recommendations, while only 19% correctly followed nutritional guidelines. These figures highlight the challenges in maintaining healthy habits among the elderly population.
The findings underscore the need to develop new strategies to facilitate the integration of these habits into the daily routines of patients, thereby improving their quality of life.
The award, which recognizes research work in primary care, hospital care, and sociosanitary care within the Garraf region, was presented on Thursday, October 1st, at the Espai Neàpolis in Vilanova i la Geltrú. The event was attended by the president of the Garraf Regional Board, Josep Maria Benet, and the deputy secretary of the CoMB Board, Berta Areny.
The day also featured a lecture on evidence-based clinical practice, humanization, and efficiency, delivered by Jordi Varela, a doctor with extensive management experience in Catalan public hospitals.
This recognition highlights the research efforts of CSAPG professionals and their commitment to the continuous improvement of healthcare models.
