The initiative is part of the INNOVA 2030 Plan from the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food. With the inclusion of viticulture, four sectors now have innovation boards, alongside ruminants, animal feed, and olive oil. The coordination of the new wine board falls to the Catalan Institute of Vine and Wine (INCAVI), while the other three are coordinated by the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA).
This collaborative space aims to connect sector needs with research. Participants include wineries, cooperatives, agricultural organizations, origin denominations, business associations, clusters, universities, research and technology centers, service companies, and experts. Through knowledge exchange and case analysis, challenges and opportunities will be identified to promote innovative solutions.
Areas of focus include sustainability, climate change adaptation, new product development, improvement of production processes, digitalization, artificial intelligence, data management, commercialization, market access, and consumer behavior.
The first session served to present the Board's structure, which includes a general assembly, a technical secretariat managed by INCAVI, and flexible working groups. An annual in-person meeting is planned to evaluate ongoing projects and set new priorities.
