The Vilafranca del Penedès Local Police launched a specific campaign this week to monitor and penalize the uncivil use of waste containers and litter bins in public spaces, responding to increased citizen complaints.

This control operation is being launched as a direct response to one of the main demands from citizens, who call for greater control over uncivil behavior in public areas. In recent months, the City Council has detected an increase in the misuse of containers, with waste deposited outside the receptacles, and situations where individuals rummage through trash and leave it scattered around the area.

"For the benefit of the community and social cohesion, the City Council cannot tolerate the uncivil attitudes of a few; attitudes that harm the vast majority of citizens who act with sensitivity and responsibility, which is why we are launching this awareness campaign that will lead to sanctions for those who fail to comply with the rules set out in this regard."

Regarding litter bins, the campaign will ensure they are not used incorrectly as if they were large containers, specifically preventing the disposal of domestic garbage bags. To carry out these controls, Local Police officers, both uniformed and plainclothes, along with civic agents and watchmen, will be deployed to reinforce surveillance and awareness efforts in Vilafranca del Penedès.
