The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, participated yesterday in the second day of the 37th Pyrenean Business Meeting, where he defended the budgets agreed with ERC and commons. Illa described the public accounts, expected to be approved in July, as a "good news" that brings "almost 50 billion euros" to the country and will allow for a 50% increase in investment in the Pyrenees.
Among the planned investments, the president mentioned improvements to the N-260, the Comiols Axis, the new Alt Urgell Hospital, 24H helicopters, fiber optic deployment, and the IRTA center in the Pyrenees. He also referred to the 400 million plan for small towns across Catalonia and the call to fill vacant secretary and municipal comptroller positions.
In response to questions from businessmen, Illa indicated that the Transversal Railway Axis project is being analyzed, along with different options for the industrial project of Alguaire Airport, with the confidence that it will become a reality during the current legislature.
Regarding the economic zone of Organyà and Andorra's interest in establishing industrial land and differentiated taxation there, the president assured a "will to understand" and confirmed that taxation is being worked on, "keeping Catalonia's interests clear".
Illa also highlighted Catalonia's energy competitiveness, paying a third of what Italians pay and half of what Germans pay for electricity thanks to renewables, and insisted on the need to increase its share, pointing to a European target of 2% of the territory dedicated to these energies.
Finally, the president claimed Catalonia's role in the defense sector and emphasized its contributions in agri-food, logistics, technology, healthcare, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals, without forgetting tourism as a wealth creator.
