The Recercat 2026, taking place this weekend in El Pont de Suert, has emphasized the value of the Catalan language and the cultural diversity of the Pyrenees, defending them as a treasure against ideological questioning.

During the inauguration of the Local Culture and Research conferences for Catalan-speaking territories, a representative from the Centre de Estudis Ribagorçans underscored the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity. He noted that, despite being a source of pride and richness, this diversity is often questioned by certain ideological sectors and political powers.

"The ultra ideologies that today threaten all over Europe and also our territory, often consider the Catalan language and its dialectal variants an obstacle, hindrance, or threat. Faced with this, we must be clear: a language is never a threat, a language is a cultural treasure."

The event, organized by the Institut Ramon Muntaner (IRMU) under the motto 'Weaving cultural community', involves 200 entities from various Catalan-speaking areas. Scheduled activities include conferences, debates, audiovisual screenings, and exhibitions, all focused on the historical, cultural, and social interest of the Pyrenees.
Yesterday's session included a round table on the community's role in preserving material and immaterial heritage, and the presentation of the audiovisual project Històries del Pirineu. This project consists of six documentary videos exploring the regional archives of the Alt Pirineu i Aran, aiming to disseminate the mountain stories that shape the collective identity of the region.
Additionally, the RecerCat awards were presented to the Centre d’Estudis Local de Alaior and an archaeologist and cultural disseminator. It was announced that the next edition of RecerCat 2027 will take place in Alcanar. The day concluded with a family activity and a gastronomic exhibition of products from Alta Ribagorça.
