The city of Igualada will celebrate Catalonia's National Day with a program of activities centered around an institutional event to be held on Wednesday, September 9. The event will include a conference by historian, journalist, and writer Jaume Clotet Planas, and the traditional raising of the Senyera flag in front of the Town Hall.
The event will begin at 7:00 PM in the Council Chamber of the Igualada Town Hall with the conference “September 12, 1714; the country we have”. Jaume Clotet Planas, a graduate in Journalism from the UAB and History from the UB, and winner of the 2024 Josep Pla Award and the Nèstor Luján Historical Novel Award, will deliver the lecture. Seating for the conference is limited.
Subsequently, at 8:00 PM, the activities will move to the Town Hall Square for the reception of authorities and the traditional Senyera flag-raising ceremony. The Miquelets d’Igualada will perform honors to the authorities, and the Cor Exaudio will perform Els Segadors before the flag-raising, which will be led by Jaume Clotet.
Once the Senyera is raised, the Cor Exaudio, composed of around thirty women and founded in Igualada in 1997 under the direction of Pablo Morales, will present a selection of traditional Catalan songs.
The Diada commemoration program will extend throughout September. On Saturday, September 12, at 6:30 PM, the Sardana Dance for the September 11 Diada will take place in Cal Font Square, featuring the Cobla Mediterrània, organized by the Agrupació Sardanista d’Igualada with the support of the Town Hall.
Finally, on Friday, September 18, at 7:30 PM, the Teatre Municipal Ateneu will host a new edition of the Cultural Commitment Awards, organized by Òmnium Cultural Anoia with free admission. These awards will recognize individuals and groups from the region for their work in defending Catalan language and culture, including actor Joan Valentí Cortès “Nan” and the Casal de Calaf, with a special mention for Carla Junyent Cuatrecases.
