The Igualada City Council has activated the special SUMA+ security operation, coordinated with the Local Police and Mossos d'Esquadra, to reinforce surveillance in commercial areas during the Christmas and Three Kings holidays.

The plan, presented by Government Councilor Carlota Carner, aims to guarantee public coexistence, prevent the commission of crimes, and respond to the increased activity in the streets and shopping areas.
The SUMA+ operation is the result of collaboration between the two police forces and the Igualada Comerç entity, focusing on times and locations with the highest influx of people. This proximity patrolling complements the regular service provided throughout the year.
Actions include preventive patrols from Monday to Saturday during the evening, coinciding with the closing of shops. Furthermore, simultaneous foot patrolling, both morning and afternoon, will be activated on key shopping days such as December 20, 21, 22, and 23, and January 3 and 4.
Councilor Carlota Carner emphasized that a visible police presence on the street is crucial for citizens to enjoy the holidays and shop peacefully. Patrols and preventive controls will also be reinforced during Christmas and New Year's Eve nights to ensure public safety and the proper use of public space.
