The event, titled Montserrat, un Nadal de mil anys (Montserrat, a Thousand Years of Christmas), is part of the year commemorating the millennium of the monastery's founding. The program focuses on pieces that are part of the monastery's current liturgy, featuring the solo baritone Joan Garcia-Gomà.
The repertoire includes works by historical Montserratine masters such as Anselm Viola, Joan Cererols, and Àngel Rodamilans. Additionally, more recent compositions, even from the 21st century, by authors like Bernat Vivancos and the Igualada natives Pol Requesens and Carles Prat, the latter being the director of the Cor d’Homes, will be performed.
The musical selection ranges from a canon extracted from the famous Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, dating back to the 14th century, to contemporary works written by composers linked to the Escolania.
The two choirs will be accompanied by Joan Espuny on the Santa Maria organ and the positive organ, along with an instrumental ensemble consisting of violins, cello, flutes, and horns.
Tickets for the concert, scheduled for 8:00 PM, are available on the tiquetsigualada.cat platform with advance prices ranging from 10 to 15 euros, with free entry for children under 10 years old.
