Parc Central will be the hub of the event, serving as the start and finish line for both planned categories. The race maintains its participatory spirit, open to all citizens, aiming to promote physical activity and create a meeting point for athletes, families, educational centers, and local entities.
This year, two categories are offered: at 10:30 AM, the 5 km competitive race will begin, with classification by categories, and at 12:00 PM, the 2.5 km family race will kick off, which is non-competitive and designed for all ages.
The Councilor for Sports, Patrícia Illa, highlighted the importance of the family and non-competitive aspect, as an opportunity for healthy physical activity in the community and for the involvement of schools and children. She also emphasized the long history of the event, which is approaching its half-century mark.
The presentation also included participation from Miquel Padrós, sports coordinator at Escola Mowgli, who advocated for the role of school sports and encouraged educational centers and students to participate as a first contact with physical activity. Additionally, athlete Anna Torras from Club Atlètic Igualada recalled her personal connection to the race since childhood, highlighting the atmosphere and how it served as an entry point to athletics.
Registrations are now open via the tiquetsigualada.cat platform. The 5 km competitive race with a chip closed registrations on October 4th, while registrations for the 5 km non-competitive race and the 2.5 km family race will be available until October 8th.
The Igualada Popular Race reaches its 48th edition after last year saw over 3,400 participants, consolidating it as one of the most attended sporting and civic events on the local calendar. The day promises to turn Parc Central into a large space for sporting coexistence for all ages.
