The Igualada City Council hosted the institutional event to mark the start of the 2026-2027 school year on Thursday, October 1st, at the Ateneu Igualadí, organized by the Department of Education. The gathering, open to the public, served as a space for recognition within the local educational community.
A highlight of the day was the tribute to the Igualada teachers who retired during the past academic year, acknowledging their vocation and dedication. A total of 9 primary school teachers and 11 secondary school professors were honored.
The Mayor of Igualada and the Councilor for Education presented each honored teacher with a sculptural piece by Teresa Riba, titled “Nena de la Rambla” and “Noi de la Rambla,” symbolizing the spirit of learning.
Prior to the tribute, Guillermo Bautista, a Doctor of Pedagogy and researcher at UOC, delivered a lecture titled «Transforming Educational Space to Improve Well-being and Learning». Bautista discussed the necessary changes in school spaces to enhance learning and student well-being, drawing on the work of the Smart Classroom Project research group.
The event concluded with a reception in the Sala de Socis of the Ateneu Igualadí, providing an informal meeting point for attendees from the city's educational and social sectors.
