The Igualada City Council implemented a new AI-based access control camera system to optimize traffic management and enhance citizen security starting early this year.

Mobility Councillor Miquel Vives presented the technological update affecting restricted traffic zones. This comprehensive renovation replaces the old devices with latest-generation cameras and much more powerful management software.

"The measure responds to a dual strategic objective: optimizing access control to pedestrian zones and integrating these devices into the citizen security network of the Local Police to have constant and immediate information."

The new system allows for more precise management of the seventeen cameras distributed in key points such as the Nucli Antic, Cal Font, Avinguda d'Andorra, or Carrer de Carles Riba. The incorporation of artificial intelligence in license plate reading reduces errors and prevents undue sanctions.
Beyond traffic control, the main innovation is the integration of the cameras into the Local Police's video surveillance platform. This allows officers to view images in real-time from the communications room, adding to the existing network of over a hundred cameras to reinforce police response capacity.
