The Head of the Opposition, Jordi Cuadras, pointed out that, over the last four years, only between three and five annual flats have utilized the aid, which offers up to 20,000 euros in exchange for the property joining the affordable rental market for five years. This figure contrasts sharply with the fifteen homes that benefited from the program in 2021.
Igualada Som-hi proposes increasing the subsidy amount to make it more attractive to owners, thereby ensuring more flats are made available to citizens. The main objective of the program, according to the party, is not being met under the current conditions.
“"The aid must serve to make flats available to the public, and currently this objective is not being met."
The socialists also took the opportunity to recall the urgent need to renew the Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POUM), which they consider "the great tool to address the housing shortage in Igualada."
The concern over housing is reflected in the latest survey by the Diputació de Barcelona, where Igualada residents rank it as one of the top three problems. Furthermore, citizens "fail the policies of the Marc Castells government in this area with a score of 3.8," according to the municipal group.
