The fixed fee and the first two consumption tiers of the general tariff will be reduced by 10%, while the first tiers of the social tariff will decrease by 15%. These tariff modifications were presented on Friday, October 23, at the Teatre Foment's Assembly Hall, in a press conference that also detailed investments made and future projects.
The mayor of Piera, Carme González, highlighted the complexity of managing the water network in an extensive and diverse municipality, emphasizing that a more efficient network optimizes available resources and service costs.
The new tariff structure also includes a 12% reduction in the first industrial tier, a 20% reduction in the tariff for works and other uses, and an 8% reduction for meter maintenance. Additionally, a new agricultural tariff is being introduced. Councilor for Environment, Àngel Sabaté, praised the political courage to address service losses, stating that public management will lead to a financially balanced closure of 2026 with lower tariffs than in 2022.
Network performance has significantly improved, rising from 66.52% in 2023 to an anticipated 81.53% in 2026, a 15.01 percentage point increase. This improvement occurred despite an increase in the cost of purchased water, from 0.509 euros per cubic meter in 2023 to 0.862 euros in 2026.
Between 2023 and 2026, IPSA has invested over 650,000 euros of its own resources, and the City Council has allocated 2,248,000 euros for network renovation, sectorization, telemetry implementation, digitalization, and leak detection. Notable works have been carried out in various areas of the municipality, incorporating technologies such as flow meters and smart meters.
It is recommended that homes with existing metering systems switch to individual meters for more accurate billing. Future projects include extending water supply to La Fortesa and Vallbonica, replacing pipes, and renovating reservoirs.
