Municipal investment in Piera has become a priority for the current governing team, which has allocated municipal savings to improving neighborhoods and recovering historical heritage. According to City Council data, the investment made during August 2026 already exceeded that of the entire year 2025, which in turn was higher than in 2024. This trend contrasts with previous years, when investment was an exception.
With the end of the municipal term approaching before the May 2027 elections, the government has focused its actions on recovering investment in neighborhoods and towns, as well as restoring the historical heritage of the town. Improvements have been made to street asphalt, water access has been guaranteed in all areas, the Foment theater has been municipalized, the new Espai Jove has been created, and the Plaça de la Creu has been remodeled.
Furthermore, a new waste collection system has been implemented, doubling recycling capacity in two years, from 17% to 34%. In terms of security, a new Security Park is being planned, which will include a new Local Police Station and facilities for the Mossos d'Esquadra.
Since May 2026, a new Urban Planning scheme is being developed through a participatory process to provide neighborhoods with resources and foster a more cohesive society. This investment has been possible thanks to the management of the Treasury Surplus, which has decreased from over 20 million euros at the start of the term to approximately 14 million currently.
The total investment for 2026 is expected to exceed 5 million euros, tripling the figures from 2021 and 2022. This sustained growth, representing a 7% increase from the previous year, is justified by the need to address the deficit in services in neighborhoods and towns. Concurrently, the municipal staff has grown from 70 to approximately 120 professionals to support these investments.
Over 1.5 million euros will be invested in paving and improving the water supply network during 2026 in neighborhoods such as El Portell, Can Canals, Can Claramunt, Sant Jordi, Can Mata, Can Bou, and Bosc de l'Àliga. Security has also been enhanced with over €300,000 in video-protection systems, along with investments in the maintenance of municipal buildings and the expansion of the cemetery.
In the short term, the new Citizen Attention Office building, social services facilities, and the Justice of the Peace will be completed, and the project for the new Local Police Station will be approved. The Piera City Council thus continues its commitment to building a modern and cohesive town.
