The facility, located next to an industrial estate, covers less than five hectares and has a peak capacity of 3.5 MW. The estimated annual production is 5.5 GWh, equivalent to 1.3 times the consumption of the Hospital Universitari d’Igualada. The President of the Parliament, Josep Rull, visited the plant this Tuesday, accompanied by L’Energètica officials and the mayor of the municipality, Maties Bosch.
The park features 7,668 solar panels and is expected to save 1,600 tons of CO2. The production will be entirely dedicated to Infraestructures Ferroviàries de Catalunya (Ifercat).
The Director General of L’Energètica, Daniel Pérez, highlighted that supplying renewable electricity during daylight hours is a “policy to contain public transport costs”. The President of the Parliament, Josep Rull, emphasized the need to electrify and implement renewables as an “element of economic competitiveness” while fighting climate change. The mayor of Sant Pere Sallavinera, Maties Bosch, noted the social acceptance of the park.
L’Energètica invested 2.65 million euros in this facility, which was pre-selected in the second public call for acquiring solar parks. The public renewable energy company of the Generalitat de Catalunya aims to multiply renewable energy generation to supply the Catalan administration's public services.
