The Vilanova del Camí Town Council and the Catalan Housing Agency have signed an agreement to promote the construction of about thirty officially protected homes on municipal land to address the local housing emergency.

This project will take place on a 1,737 square meter plot located on Joan Miró Street, which has already been registered in the Public Land Reserve of the Generalitat de Catalunya. This instrument is crucial for accessing public aid lines aimed at increasing the supply of affordable housing across the territory.
Through the agreement, the council grants the Housing Agency a surface right over the land for a period of 75 years. This mechanism allows the successful developer to build the homes without the municipality losing ownership, as both the land and the buildings will revert to the Town Council upon expiration of the term.
The Agency will be responsible for the comprehensive management of the public tender to select the developer, handling all procedures at no cost to the council. The future development will prioritize rental or use cession schemes, aiming to facilitate access for groups facing greater difficulties.
Up to 10% of the homes will be reserved for residential vulnerability situations, channeled through the emergency board. Furthermore, a minimum of 25% of the apartments will be allocated to young people up to 35 years old. To apply, applicants must prove a minimum period of registration (empadronament) in the municipality. The deadline for submitting proposals for the public tender is April 15th.
