Exhibition on medicine and childhood in Val d'Aran

The Val d'Aran joins the global celebration of International Museum Day with a series of activities centered around the theme of childhood, running from May 15 to 18, 2026.

The Val d'Aran Museum, located in Vielha, will be one of the main venues for the program. Starting Wednesday, May 15, visitors can explore the exhibition “En casa o ena consulta. Medecina e enfança en Aran”. This display reviews the most significant moments in the valley's healthcare history, highlighting key figures and showcasing original medical instruments from the early 20th century, some of which were used during childbirth.
To delve deeper into the exhibition's content, several complementary activities have been organized. On Friday, May 15, at 7 PM, a doctor in Medicine and member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia will present the exhibition and deliver a talk titled “Cinc des que mos cuedèren,” honoring prominent doctors of the 20th century.
On Sunday, May 18, at 10 AM, the same doctor will lead a guided tour of the exhibition, focusing on the displayed artifacts. On Monday, May 19, at 11:30 AM, the activity “Passam consulta damb ADDA” will take place, including a guided tour and a participatory workshop with members of this association, open to all audiences.
Childhood and families will be the focus of the activities on Saturday, May 16, held in front of the Nhèu Museum in Unha. The educational staff of the National Park will animate the morning with two games: the ArqueoParc, at 11 AM, and an “Archaeological Escape Room.” Reservations are required at the Val d'Aran Museum to participate.
During these days, the four museum facilities in the Val d'Aran will offer free admission. The Val d'Aran Museum in Vielha will be open on Saturday, May 16, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM and from 5 PM to 10 PM (for Museum Night), on Sunday, May 17, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM, and on Monday, May 18, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. The Ecomuseu çò de Joanchiquet in Vilamòs, the Casa deth Haro in Les, and the Nhèu Museum in Unha will also have special open hours.
