Renfe has announced a schedule update for the Manresa line, affecting the RL3 (Lleida-Cervera) and RL4 (Lleida-Manresa) routes. According to the company, this measure aims to adapt to infrastructure conditions and restore regularity following disruptions caused by the January storms.
However, the change will result in longer journey times for RL4 users. The latest update to the Alternative Transport Plan anticipates extended travel times between Cervera and Manresa. Consequently, the journey between Lleida and Manresa will exceed two hours, compared to the current approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. The segment between Manresa and Cervera will also be extended, from a maximum of one hour to no less than 1 hour and 9 minutes.
This increase in travel time is due to the 12 Temporary Speed Restrictions (LTV) in effect between these two stations, which require trains to travel at 50 km/h for nearly 20 kilometers, and at 30 km/h in one section. The CCOO union has criticized this measure, calling it a "cosmetic fix" to align schedules with restrictions.
The "only novelty" highlighted by the union is the reinstatement of the last train between Lleida and Manresa, which was previously completed by a bus service from Cervera.
In parallel, CCOO and UGT have called for a partial strike on the commuter rail network for May 27 and June 5, due to the failure to fulfill the commitment to increase the presence of ticket inspectors on Regional and Medium Distance trains.
In other news, Adif has tendered a contract worth 7.13 million euros to improve the reliability of the high-speed line between Madrid, Barcelona, and the French border. The works will focus on installing or renewing sleepers in sections dependent on the maintenance bases of Montagut (Lleida) and Vilafranca del Penedès, and will be carried out during nighttime hours to avoid affecting train services.
