The Fàbrica Vella Cultural Space in Sallent was filled last Friday, October 23rd, to celebrate Sallent's culture with an event that takes over from the former Josep Fàbregas i Capell Poetry Prize, recognizing the figure of Josep Pons Deseuras.

The evening began with a performance by the group Diaforé, who danced the poem “El Pont de Sallent” (The Bridge of Sallent), recited by Josep Xipell, on a stage set up close to the audience and surrounded by chairs and tables. Following a video summary of the twenty-eight editions of the Josep Fàbregas i Capell Poetry Prize, an emotional tribute was paid to Salvador Arderiu, the driving force behind the prize for many years.
The younger generation had their moment with Clara Cortés reciting the poem “Cançó de caça” (Hunting Song) and Main Palau performing Schumann's piece of the same name on the piano. Also performing were Roger Andorrà on the gralla (a type of Catalan shawm) and Roger Giménez on the piano, offering their own version of “Per tu Boi” and the well-known “Ball de gegants de Sallent” (Dance of the Giants of Sallent). Fina Borràs, representing students from the Catalan classes that Josep Fàbregas taught at the Library, recited “Si saps que sóc al teu costat” (If you know I'm by your side).
The central moment was the presentation of the Josep Fàbregas i Capell Recognition 2026 to Josep Pons Deseuras (1922-1983), an amateur writer and author of “Lluita de mots” (Struggle of Words) and the lyrics for the sardana (a Catalan dance) “La Plaça de Sallent” (The Square of Sallent). The award was presented by Lola and Pol, Josep Fàbregas's great-grandchild and grandson, and accepted by his daughter, Pilar. Montserrat Altarriba read his poem “Alè del passat” (Breath of the Past). A book of his texts is scheduled for publication in 2027.
The Councillor for Culture, Diego Miranda, gave the closing speech of the evening, once again emphasizing the importance of recognizing all the personalities involved in the celebration and highlighting the role of such events in valuing Sallent's culture. The event was presented and hosted by Climent Sensada, and concluded with Diaforé performing “Amsterdam” by Jacques Brel (adapted by Jordi Fàbregas) and “Som de Sallent” (We are from Sallent).
