The Consell Comarcal del Baix Camp has processed a total of 114 cases of abandoned and/or end-of-life vehicles during 2025. This figure represents a 48% increase compared to 2024, when 77 cases were handled. This rise highlights the consolidation of the regional service and the growing involvement of local councils in detecting and removing these vehicles from public roads.
Of the 114 cases, 69 concluded with the vehicle being scrapped and decontaminated, 38 were archived, and 7 resulted in the vehicle being assigned to the traffic surveillance service, becoming the property of the local council.
Cambrils was the municipality with the highest activity, registering 77 cases (approximately 68% of the regional total). Of these, 46 vehicles were scrapped, 24 cases were archived, and 7 were assigned to the Local Police's traffic surveillance service.
Other municipalities that have used the service include la Selva del Camp (8 cases), Montbrió del Camp (6), Alforja (4), Botarell (4), and Vinyols i els Arcs (4). Cases were also processed in l'Aleixar, Castellvell del Camp, Pratdip, Riudecanyes, and Vilanova d'Escornalbou (two each), and Riudecols (one).
The majority of actions have led to the definitive removal of vehicles and their proper environmental treatment, thereby improving road safety, public space quality, and environmental protection. These figures underscore the commitment of the councils to maintaining public spaces and sustainability.
The procedure begins when a council reports the existence of a presumably abandoned vehicle and requests the intervention of the Consell Comarcal. Once legal requirements are verified, the corresponding file is initiated, followed by removal, custody, and eventual scrapping at an authorized facility.
