The city of Reus experienced a significant surge in tourism coinciding with the total solar eclipse. Municipal tourist facilities managed by Reus Promoció welcomed 1,489 visitors between August 10th and 12th, representing a 103% increase compared to the same period last year. Additionally, hotel occupancy reached 100%.
The Tourist Office assisted 388 individuals specifically interested in the eclipse. Visitors came from various locations in Catalonia and across Spain, as well as from countries such as France, England, Germany, the United States, Australia, Korea, and Italy.
The mayor of Reus, Sandra Guaita, positively assessed the event, noting that the city was prepared to host around 10,500 people and that the influx was orderly. Mobility required foresight, with full parking lots and reinforced public transport, but the arrangements managed visitor arrivals smoothly.
Guaita also emphasized the emotional dimension of the eclipse, describing it as a collective and fortunate experience. Visitors took the opportunity to explore the city's tourist and cultural attractions, as well as its gastronomy and commercial offerings.
The City Council believes the eclipse has served to promote Reus externally, blending science, knowledge, culture, gastronomy, and commerce, positioning the city as a prime location for observing the astronomical phenomenon.
