The Reus Library is hosting the activity 'Fabulem l'espai', designed to introduce 3rd-grade primary school children to the concept of space through children's literature and illustrated albums.

The main objective of the session is for children to learn about the creative possibilities of illustrated albums and understand the function of white space in a book. Through experimentation, the aim is for them to grasp how lines can define changes in location and depth, and to develop their creativity via chain narrative drawing.
The first part of the activity begins with the narration of the story Harold and the Purple Crayon. This is followed by a reflection on space creation in artistic representation, particularly focusing on the moment the protagonist faces a completely blank page. Key questions are posed: Where is Harold before he draws? What happens if he draws nothing? Is there ground? Is there sky? How does the space change when he draws a straight line under his feet? These questions help discover that white space in an illustrated album is not nothingness, but a space full of possibilities.
During the second part, children will participate in a chain drawing activity. Each student must continue the purple line left by the previous classmate, transforming the initial space into new forms. For instance, a line representing a mountain could become the roof of a house or a sea wave, demonstrating fluidity and creativity in scenario building.
This activity is specifically aimed at 3rd-grade primary students.
