Caritas Diocesana de Tortosa has released its 2025 Social Report, a document that highlights key social data, the activity of its programs, and the financial results of the year. The event, presided over by the Bishop of Tortosa, Mons. Sergi Gordo, and attended by the entity's director, Didac Rodríguez, served to underscore the organization's concern about the rise in social fragmentation and precariousness.
Under the slogan "Choose to love. Choose community," the report details the actions of the diocese's 32 parish and inter-parish Caritas branches. In 2025, 8,872 individuals and 3,804 families were assisted through 27 projects, with 2,480 of those being children and adolescents. This work was made possible by the involvement of 604 volunteers.
The general secretary of Caritas Diocesana de Tortosa, Agustí Adell, detailed an investment of 2,806,533 euros, allocated to the care and promotion of vulnerable groups such as children, individuals seeking employment, the elderly, women, and the homeless.
Didac Rodríguez warned that "we live in a society that grows in some indicators, but at the same time fragments, leaves people behind, and weakens the bonds that sustain life." He emphasized that employment is no longer always a guarantee of dignity, nor does personal effort ensure a life with rights, pointing to job precarity, difficulties in accessing housing, and the situation of migrants as key factors of vulnerability.
For his part, Mons. Sergi Gordo recalled that "Christian faith is only authentic when it is concretized in love, service, and closeness to those who suffer most." He referenced the recent papal encyclical on the importance of not being indifferent to suffering and new forms of exclusion, stressing that charity stems from recognizing the infinite dignity of every human person.
The bishop expressed his gratitude to all the collaborating individuals and entities that make this network of fraternity and social commitment possible throughout the diocese.
