Civil Guard agents have arrested four adult men on the AP-7 motorway, in the municipality of L'Aldea, for an alleged crime against public health after seizing 92.5 kilograms of opium plant and a scale.

The operation took place during a fiscal verification point at the 'Baix Ebre' service area. Officers stopped a car and observed nervousness and contradictory answers from the four occupants regarding their reason for travel.
During the vehicle search, five opaque bags containing numerous dry seed pods were found. A weighing scale and a metal container with a brown substance were also seized.
The occupants claimed the goods were for personal consumption, but given the large quantity, they were investigated for a crime against public health, as the substance is a raw material for extracting alkaloids like morphine and codeine.
The proceedings, detainees, and seized items have been handed over to the duty investigating court in Tortosa.
