The Ametlla Film Fest returns to Terres de l'Ebre from June 12-14 for its second edition, dedicated to short films with the aim of decentralizing film culture.
L'Ametlla de Mar will become the hub of Catalan cinema from June 12-14 with the second edition of the Ametlla Film Fest. This festival, specializing in short films, aims to bring together film enthusiasts and showcase emerging talent from the region, thereby contributing to cultural decentralization.
The program will include a diverse selection of fiction, documentary, and new narratives, with a particular emphasis on audiovisual pieces with a social background. Director from Cambrils, Mònica Cambra Domínguez, godmother of this edition, will present her film Un sol radiant.
The Official Competition Section will be the central focus, screening the 20 selected short films out of over 300 submissions. As a new feature, the festival will collaborate with the Barcelona Cinema School to showcase student projects.
We have a lot of talent here and we want to showcase it. The Ametlla Film Fest is not just a screen to watch films, but a platform to root culture in the territory. We want to demonstrate that from Terres de l’Ebre we can position ourselves as an essential reference point in the Catalan audiovisual landscape.
A professional jury, composed of critics and directors from the Catalan audiovisual sector, will select the winning works, while the audience will vote for the Audience Award. In addition to short films, committed feature films and documentaries will be screened, such as Swim for ELA, which will donate part of its proceeds to the fight against the disease, and Sorda, recognized at the Goya and Gaudí Awards.

"It is an immense honor to be the godmother of a festival like this, so close to home, which is born with the will to decentralize culture and make cinema a living experience throughout the territory. I have always believed that film festivals are essential spaces to give visibility to different and artisanal films, works that hardly find a place in the more commercial circuits but have an enormous capacity to connect with the audience. In this sense, the Ametlla Film Fest becomes a key initiative for the Tarragona region, and I feel very happy to be able to experience it and be a part of it."
As a significant new feature, the festival incorporates pieces dedicated to the sea, sailors, and the fishing tradition of L'Ametlla de Mar, including the short film Mareas Ocultas and other works filmed in the municipality.
The Ametlla Film Fest is founded with the purpose of breaking away from the cultural concentration of major cities, advocating that independent, quality cinema should have a reference space on the Ebro coast. The festival will organize round tables and networking events to foster dialogue among creators, audiences, and industry professionals.
