The training program includes disciplines such as violin, viola, chamber music, piano, historical singing, choral and orchestral performance, and bandoneon. These classes will be taught by nationally and internationally renowned artists and pedagogues, complementing about fifteen concerts scheduled in various venues in the old town of Tortosa.
Among the featured professors are Rivka Golani, violist and professor at Trinity College London; Marcelo Mercadante, bandoneonist and composer; Jordi Domènech, countertenor and pianist; and Francesc Valldecabres, choir and orchestra conductor. Also participating will be Mireia Andreu in stage direction, Rubén Ametllé in performance, and Anna Romaní in baroque dance.
Following the success of the previous edition, the festival brings back the Opera Studio, an intensive five-day masterclass (from July 23 to 27) focused on the multidisciplinary work of baroque arias. This training combines musical and scenic aspects, with rehearsals of recitatives and opera arias under the direction of Jordi Domènech. The Opera Studio will also include stage direction with Mireia Andreu, performance classes with Rubén Ametllé, and a baroque dance workshop with Anna Romaní, with harpsichord accompaniment by Josep Mateu. The course will culminate in a staged performance with orchestra, as part of the Proto-fest 2026 program.
Conductor Francesc Valldecabres will offer a masterclass for choir, string orchestra, and piano, focusing on Martín Palmeri's Misa Tango (also known as Misa a Buenos Aires). This work merges Catholic liturgical tradition with the language of modern tango. Concurrently, from July 31 to August 1, Marcelo Mercadante will lead a bandoneon masterclass specifically on the orchestral part of the Misa Tango.
From July 28 to 31, violist Rivka Golani will conduct a masterclass for viola, violin, and chamber music performers, with pianist Miquel Esquinas as accompanist. Additionally, on July 27, Anna Romaní will offer a workshop open to the general public to explore baroque dances, understanding them as an essential part of the artistic thought of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Registrations can be formalized through the official festival website. In the coming weeks, the Proto-fest – Tortosa Music Festival will announce the full concert program for the 2026 edition.
