The Department of Justice and Democratic Quality anticipates that the new democratic memory law, promoted by the Government in the Parliament, will be approved "soon." This law would serve as the legal framework for managing the Francoist monument on the Ebro in Tortosa. Ministry sources have indicated that, with the judicial decision to lift the precautionary measures that halted the monument's removal, "there are no longer impediments or other open cases preventing the resolution of the core issue."
This judicial procedure concerned the demolition permit. The Government had requested the administrative court number 2 of Tarragona to resume the case, after the judge asked for information on the matter a few weeks ago.
The Minister of Justice, Ramon Espadaler, informed the mayor of Tortosa, Mar Lleixà, this week about the department's intention to "continue working in alignment with the council on managing the issue."
