The Les Colladetes wind farm, located in El Perelló (Baix Ebre), has completed its repowering, becoming the first such installation in Catalonia to renew its wind turbines.

The facility has gone from having 54 wind turbines to just 8. This drastic reduction in the number of units is due to the replacement of old turbines with 6 new-generation, larger, and more powerful ones, in addition to the expansion of the farm with 2 extra units. Despite the decrease in the number of turbines, energy production has seen a notable increase of 79%, rising from 74 to 133 GWh annually.
This pioneering initiative in El Perelló comes at a key moment, as the Catalan Government plans to present a strategy for the renovation of wind farms across the region. According to projections, this renovation could lead to a significant reduction in the total number of turbines, from the current 746 to 240, while still expecting a 31% increase in overall energy production.
The Minister of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque, acknowledged that these installations have a visual impact on the landscape and environment, emphasizing the need to 'reduce the footprint' of these infrastructures.
