The Mayor of Tortosa, Mar Lleixà, has been cautious when explaining her government's decision to file a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office regarding potential irregularities detected in the contracting of works for the former SAMO factory. Lleixà stated that it is necessary to remain on the sidelines and respect the decisions of the judiciary and the Prosecutor's Office.
From a strictly political standpoint, the mayor has lamented the criticism from the Junts per Tortosa municipal group, who accuse the government of using the justice system for electoral gain. According to Lleixà, information about the alleged irregularities was brought to attention in November, and she believes current statements aim to divert attention from these issues.
The review of contracts began due to safety concerns at the building, which necessitated its temporary closure. During this process, it was discovered that some works adjudication contracts had been formalized after the building's inauguration date, which occurred just before the municipal elections in 2023. Out of responsibility to the citizens and public resources, the decision was made to inform the Prosecutor's Office.

The Tortosa City Council is actively cooperating with the Prosecutor's Office, responding to all its documentation requests to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
