The Catalan Government has authorized a €1.7 million subsidy to the Tortosa City Council to finance the construction of the new national category athletics track in the village of Jesús.

Councillor Jordi Jordan confirmed the agreement by the Catalan Sports Council, which was necessary since the amount exceeds €300,000. This investment will be allocated to Phase 1 of the project, which includes the eight-lane track, stands, and arbitration towers, on land located between the Jesús and Roquetes road.

"In the previous mandate, the land was acquired to build the athletics track in Jesús, but at that time the project did not have any guaranteed financing."

Jordi Jordan · Councillor
The new facility, located next to the current WIN Jesús installations, will be regulatory and can be homologated by the Catalan and Spanish Athletics Federations. This will allow it to host national and state competitions, as the current municipal stadium track is only suitable for training.

"This is a project that has also been agreed upon with the Club Atletisme Terres de l’Ebre, taking into account the current and future needs of the sports entity that structures the practice of athletics in our municipality."

Jordi Jordan · Councillor
The Generalitat emphasizes that this action is “strategic to provide the Terres de l’Ebre with a homologated 400-meter, 8-lane facility, currently non-existent.” The equipment will serve school activities, sports clubs, and allow hosting official national level competitions.
Furthermore, the Tortosa City Council has received an additional €624,000 from the Generalitat’s shock plan to improve other facilities, such as the adaptation of the stands and the renovation of the changing rooms at the Josep Otero Municipal Stadium, and improvements to the Jordi Angelats pavilion, in the Ferreries neighborhood.
