The municipality of Tivenys will host its first democratic memory day on May 9, with a program that includes a trench route and a tribute to an international brigadier.

The day will focus on the figure of a French railway worker, a member of the communist youth, who enlisted in the 14th International Brigade 'La Marsellesa'. He fought on the fronts of Algora, Las Rozas, and Madrid, and died in May 1938 due to a bombing by Italian aviation, without participating in the Battle of the Ebro.
His grave is located on a farm in Tivenys, in an area of trenches overlooking a stretch of river and the canal. Part of these defensive structures, situated above the Iberian settlement of the weir, have been restored. The Tivenys City Council has created a circular route, and the Democratic Memorial has marked it with informative panels.
The brigadier's resting place features a small white wall with a tombstone. This original tombstone, placed in 1987 by a comrade, disappeared years later. In 2012, a resident of Tivenys made a wooden replica, which is currently there. That same year, the association Lo Riu de La Fatarella and the council organized a memorial event to dignify it.

The day will begin at 10 AM at the Tivenys fairgrounds, from where participants will travel to the weir to start a guided tour of the trenches, which will include a living recreation. Upon reaching the grave, institutional speeches and a floral offering will take place.
In the afternoon, at 7 PM, the association Lo Riu will offer a talk titled 'From Oblivion to Memory' in the interpretation center hall at the fairgrounds. The event will conclude with a Kahoot quiz about the Battle of the Ebro.
